What does the Communications Committee do?

Engage with the medical affairs community, the bio-pharma industry, potential and current members of MAPS and communicate the value, mission and vision of MAPS via a variety of channels.

The Membership Committee is charged with developing and implementing a member recruitment and retention plan. Responsibilities include:

  • Draft a 2-year plan for review and approval by MAPS staff and leadership, to be updated on an annual basis
  • Initiate approved activities within the plan
  • Create outreach communications for members and potential members
  • Design and create materials for the MAPS Envoy Program to educate and inform about MAPS
  • Design and create the MAPS new member package, which will serve to welcome new members and provide key information about MAPS
  • Act as a “new member buddy” for first-time attendees at the MAPS annual meeting (starting in 2018)
  • Update the MAPS member benefit FAQ as needed


The remit of the Outreach Committee is to promote the mission, values, goals, and objectives of MAPS to external stakeholders to foster an increased understanding of the value of Medical Affairs. As such, this committee is responsible for identifying contacts and developing communications utilizing various formats (eg, electronic and print) outside of MAPS membership. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop 1- and 3-year outreach plan
  • Identify key external stakeholder audiences
  • Identify venues for outreach activities
  • Create communications for external distribution
  • Liaise with the Membership Committee to leverage key learnings from members and the Communications Committee to inform external communications
  • Support the Marketing & PR Committee for outreach activities to nonmembers
