Golden, CO, November 1, 2018 – The Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS), a global non-profit [501(c)(3)] society of Medical Affairs professionals, announces the appointment of Dr Danie du Plessis as its next President for the Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) region, effective November 5, 2018.
Dr du Plessis will help build upon the successful tenure of MAPS’ first EMEA region President, Dr Ornah Levine-Dolberg, who established the EMEA Executive Leadership Committee, helped guide MAPS to membership growth in the region, and spearheaded the development of a successful inaugural Annual Meeting in the region with nearly 140 participants this October in Berlin.
A current member of the MAPS Executive Leadership Committee, focused on further developing and implementing the MAPS Capabilities Model, Dr Du Plessis will be charged with leading MAPS to continued growth in the region, and will ensure that the voice and needs of members in EMEA are reflected in all the Society’s initiatives.
Dr du Plessis most recently served as Senior Vice President, Global Medical Affairs at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where he built international teams, drove change and worked in regulated markets across Europe, the Americas, Middle East, Africa, Australasia and Japan. Prior to joining GSK, he worked for Eli Lilly & Company for 17 years in different medical roles as well as marketing and sales. During his different roles, he was based in South Africa, United Kingdom and Australia. Before joining the Pharmaceutical Industry, Dr du Plessis had his own primary care practice. He has a passion for modernizing Medical Affairs and a track record in leadership, people development, capability building and coaching.
“First and foremost, I want to both thank and congratulate Ornah on the great success she has achieved as EMEA President this past year, and for her passion and commitment to Medical Affairs,” explains MAPS President Dr Charlotte Kremer. “As we celebrate the success of our first EMEA Annual Meeting, we welcome Danie’s tremendous experience and leadership as a 25-plus year industry veteran to further develop our Society, and to continue to elevate the level of our offerings to members in EMEA and across the globe.”
“Having served on the Executive Leadership Committee for MAPS this past year, I am honored to accept this new leadership position and look forward to continuing MAPS’ impressive movement as we expand our efforts to become a truly global hub for the Medical Affairs community,” said du Plessis. “One of the reasons I got involved with MAPS and why I sit on the Executive Leadership Committee specializing in capability development, is being instrumental in the education of Medical Affairs professionals and helping shape the future of industry by ensuring its Medical people are future-ready. MAPS can really play a role in defining what Medical Affairs could and should be, in an industry-led environment.”
