Dewey McLin, PhD

Senior Director, Medical Affairs and Medical Information
Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc.

Dr. McLin currently serves as the Senior Director of Medical Affairs and Medical Information for Orexigen Therapeutics, overseeing the development and implementation of a Global Medical Affairs strategy that is aligned across 8 partner companies in 30 countries. He also oversees Medical Information services in the United States and European Union. Dewey has held various roles within Medical Affairs during his 15 year career, which initially focused on CNS-related therapeutic areas ranging from common diseases (Major Depressive Disorder; Alzheimer’s Disease) to those that are rare and unique (Pseudobulbar Affect; Non-24 Sleep Wake Disorder). Outside of Medical Affairs, Dr. McLin has experience supporting Business Development, having lead medical/scientific teams in the due diligence process for product in-licensing assessments. In that role he acquired unique experience in creating and coordinating large cross-functional teams that included Pharmacology, Toxicology, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Development, Biostatistics, and Regulatory colleagues, to make well-informed partnership recommendations. Dewey has a special interest in applying these varied experiences to establish new Medical Affairs departments at small companies that are in the process of transitioning their organizational structures from exclusively Clinical Development to fully Commercial. Dr. McLin has been among the first Medical Affairs employees hired to help develop new Medical Affairs departments at Avanir Pharmaceuticals, Vanda Pharmaceuticals, and Orexigen Therapeutics. Dewey earned his doctorate degree in Neurobiology and Behavior at the University of California, Irvine, where he held an adjunct faculty role before undertaking his first industry position at Forest Laboratories.
