LaVerne A. Mooney, DrPH

Director Team Leader Publications, CI, and Innovation – Pfizer Medical

LaVerne obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Galway University, Ireland. She was awarded her Masters and Doctor of Public Health from Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University, New York, where she researched genetic and environmental influences on cancer causation.  She has published the results of her cancer research in numerous peer-reviewed articles.

LaVerne joined EmergingMed, New York, as VP Operations. EmergingMed assisted patients by matching them to clinical trials through a computerized matching system.  Prior to joining Pfizer, LaVerne was the Director of Scientific Services at Prohealth, New York, where she oversaw a team of medical writers working across a variety of therapeutic areas.

LaVerne joined Pfizer in 2007; she is currently Director and Team Leader of Publications, CI, and Innovation, in Pfizer Medical.  She manages a team of Publication Specialists who support investigational and approved products teams across Pfizer. Her major responsibilities have been to facilitate the timely and accurate scientific dissemination of Pfizer clinical trial data, and to develop and update Pfizer publication policy.  With the recent addition of an Innovation Team, she will also focus on delivering projects that bring valuable information to our stakeholders in novel, beneficial, and stimulating formats.

LaVerne is actively involved in industry associations: she served on the Board of Trustees of the International Society of Publication Professionals, is a Steering Committee member of the Medical Publication Insights and Practice Initiative, and is a member of Open Pharma. LaVerne has presented and published on best practices, reducing publication cycle times, and transparency.
